The herbs in this soap recipe are inspired by the story of a band of graverobbers during the Black Plague. They relied upon a mysterious blend of secret herbs to avoid contracting the deadly disease that wiped out millions in Europe during the 1340s. After being apprehended, one graverobber revealed the complex herbal recipe they used in the vinegar to keep them immune.

While the exact blend of herbs is lost to time - this soap highlights what I thought to be a great fragrance blend as a soap-based homage to the story. I chose eucalyptus, cinnamon, clove, lemon, turmeric, and rosemary - several herbs thought to be in the original recipe that have antiviral and antimicrobial properties. This spicy autumnal blend has a comforting scent and an ode to our adaptive resilience.
